The Mono/Poly synthesizer, originally released in 1981 alongside the Polysix, revolutionized analog synthesis by combining multiple capabilities into a single instrument. While primarily a monophonic synthesizer featuring four thick, rich voices, it also offered the unique ability to function as a four-voice polyphonic synth. This feature was particularly valuable during a time when polyphonic synthesizers were costly and less accessible. The Mono/Poly became renowned for its expansive sound design potential, driven by its four voltage-controlled oscillators, which supported advanced techniques like oscillator sync and cross-modulation.
The updated Mono/Poly V2 in the KORG Collection builds upon the software-emulated version first introduced in 2007, enhancing it for today’s production needs. This version offers a high-resolution, scalable interface compatible with Retina and 4K displays, improving usability and visual clarity. The addition of two new multi-effects expands creative possibilities, allowing producers to shape their sounds with greater depth and character. Every aspect of the original analog circuitry is meticulously recreated using KORG’s proprietary Circuit Modeling Technology (CMT), capturing the authentic warmth and dynamic response of the classic hardware.
Designed to meet modern production standards, the Mono/Poly V2 supports up to 128 voices of polyphony along with 16-voice unison, ensuring powerful layering and complex textures. Users can explore eight-way virtual patches and access over 300 contemporary presets that showcase its broad sonic palette. This software synth offers a compelling blend of vintage character and modern functionality, making it an essential tool for musicians and producers seeking both classic analog tones and innovative sound design options. Existing users of the previous version can upgrade for free, and a demo version is available for evaluation.
