Most real-time software synthesizers rely on approximations such as tables and interpolations, which limit the range and quality of sounds they can produce. Digitally implemented bandlimited algorithms often restrict sound variety and affect overall audio fidelity. SoundModeler addresses these limitations by generating sounds with exceptional precision and quality, prioritizing accuracy over real-time performance. Its advanced oversampling techniques deliver audio that closely resembles true analog sound, opening creative possibilities limited only by the user's mathematical skills and imagination.
SoundModeler is a Windows-based sound modeling application that uses text-based mathematical expressions to create audio. This freeware/donationware tool features a fast parsing engine capable of converting complex formulas into high-fidelity audio and WAV files. Users can combine unlimited math functions to craft bandlimited analog sounds with oversampling ratios ranging from 16x to 1024x. The engine supports double-precision calculations, multiple filter types, delay lines for rich chorus effects, and the ability to use math functions or custom oscillators as sound sources. Included wavetables from classic synthesizers provide additional sound-shaping options.
With SoundModeler, users gain access to waveform and spectrum viewers for visual sound analysis, editable custom envelopes, and flexible export options including WAV and HALion multi-sample files. The application supports various micro-tuning temperaments and rhythmic functions that create intricate patterns based on binary number representations. Its user interface is adjustable and features syntax highlighting for ease of use. SoundModeler also comes with a rich library of around 100 example formulas covering effects and synth sounds like drums and leads, supported by comprehensive documentation to help users explore and master its capabilities.
