Phosphor is a software instrument inspired by the alphaSyntauri, an early digital additive synthesizer originally requiring an Apple //e computer. This modern version brings the classic sound of the alphaSyntauri directly into your digital audio workstation, eliminating the need for vintage hardware. It faithfully reproduces the unique character of the original synth while offering a streamlined, accessible experience for contemporary music producers.
At its core, Phosphor features two sixteen-partial additive oscillators, each with independent amplitude envelopes, allowing for rich and complex sound creation. The design follows the alphaSyntauri's original structure but expands on it with modern enhancements including full velocity sensitivity, advanced modulation routing, tempo-synced low-frequency oscillators, and dual delay effects. These additions provide greater expressive control and flexibility, enabling users to craft both classic digital tones and fresh, evolving textures.
Phosphor also includes multiple sound modes to emulate the original's characteristic lo-fi digital noise and partial resolution or to operate at higher modern sample rates for cleaner sound. Its dual delays come with filtering and cross-feedback options, and modulation capabilities are extensive with two tempo-syncable LFOs targeting multiple parameters. With 80 presets showcasing a wide range of sonic possibilities and full MIDI learn support, Phosphor is a powerful instrument for exploring the legacy of early digital synthesis within a contemporary production environment.
