Ion-editor is a dedicated software editor designed to provide enhanced control over the Alesis ION and Micron analog modeling synthesizers directly within your digital audio workstation. Its user interface is crafted to be intuitive and user-friendly, offering a clear and engaging experience that replicates the original Ion’s LCD graphics for parameters requiring detailed visualization. This includes envelope curves, filter balance, modulation matrix, and the tracking generator, facilitating precise sound shaping and programming.

The editor supports full automation of all Ion and Micron parameters, enabling seamless integration with your DAW workflow. It allows users to request and load patches from the synthesizer’s memory, handle sysex files for importing and exporting sounds, and send sysex data to specific banks and programs in real time. Additional features include saving programs remotely, renaming patch names and categories within sysex files, and an intelligent randomizer that helps generate new sounds quickly and creatively.

Ion-editor also offers advanced tools such as an interactive tracking generator and modulation matrix for detailed modulation routing, along with graphical and numerical displays for envelopes, filter frequencies, and other key parameters. It supports synchronization to the host tempo, provides two selectable skins for customization, and includes a MIDI Learn function for easy parameter mapping. The software can be used as a standalone application or as a VST plugin, and even accepts MIDI input from a Nintendo Wii Remote, adding a unique element of hands-on control.
