This editor-librarian software is designed for the Roland MC-707 and MC-101 grooveboxes, providing a comprehensive interface for managing and editing sounds via MIDI SysEx messages. It enables real-time, two-way communication with the device, allowing users to modify synthesis parameters and effects that Roland has not officially documented. The software features a vector-based, resizable graphic interface that displays envelopes and keyboard velocity ranges, facilitating precise control over sound design.
The ZEN-Core section offers in-depth editing across six subsections, covering all synthesis parameters and the 93 included effects with 25 presets. Users can manage up to 136 ZEN-Core tones on the MC-707 and 68 on the MC-101, including the ability to copy and paste partials and control multiple partials simultaneously with macros. It also supports editing of hidden synthesis parameters, providing access to features typically inaccessible on the hardware. Additionally, the 4-track step sequencer allows creation of melodic and rhythmic sequences synchronized to the project’s BPM.
The library section supports a vast collection of up to 16,384 ZEN-Core tones organized across multiple libraries and banks, with flexible clipboard management for efficient sound arrangement. It includes a proprietary algorithm to convert sounds from various Roland Model Expansions into equivalent ZEN-Core tones. The project section allows detailed editing of track parameters, including volume, effects, and EQ settings, with access to numerous presets for reverb and compression. This software is also available bundled with a sound library containing 215 ZEN-Core tones and additional initialization tones.
