WoodStepper is a powerful sequencer, synthesizer, and sampler that provides both audio and MIDI output. It features four independent 8-step sequencers that can be linked to create longer sequences of 16, 24, or 32 steps. Each sequencer can operate in Synth mode, allowing for flexible combinations of sequencers, synths, and samplers. Audio input sources include track audio, live or pre-recorded sampled audio, or the built-in voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs), which can generate classic waveforms and be modulated in various ways.

Each step within the sequencers can send multiple MIDI messages across two MIDI channels, enabling complex automation and control. The audio processing for each step includes pitch shifting, a Moog-style lowpass filter with envelope control, saturation, amplitude envelopes, and a delay line with independent timing and feedback. VCO notes can be controlled by MIDI input or set using a chord detection feature that extracts chord notes from live or recorded audio streams. Pitch and note outputs can be constrained to specific musical scales and keys, ensuring harmonic coherence.

WoodStepper operates as a standalone app or as a plugin compatible with various platforms including AUv3, AAX, VST, and others. It supports Ableton Link to synchronize tempo and phase with other compatible software. The sequencers can be started and stopped in multiple ways, including manual control, DAW transport, or MIDI note triggers. Presets are easily managed and can be shared across devices via cloud storage.
