TrapezoidSynth is a monophonic synthesizer designed to deliver unique sonic textures through its two trapezoid oscillators. These oscillators utilize a piecewise function of PTR ramp waves, producing a distinct tri-pulse sound character. The synth offers extensive control over oscillator shape, including slope and pulse width adjustments, along with pitch drift enhanced by white noise. Phase modulation options and feedback provide additional sound-shaping possibilities, while pitch slide features allow dynamic transitions between notes.
The sound engine is supported by an 8-order low-pass filter with saturation, which can be modulated by oscillator output for evolving tones. TrapezoidSynth includes multiple envelopes, featuring ADSR and AD types, to shape output gain, filter cutoff, and pitch modulation. Retrigger controls apply across all envelopes, ensuring expressive performance capabilities. Additionally, a single LFO can modulate oscillator pitch and filter cutoff, enabling rhythmic and evolving effects that enrich the sonic palette.
While the Linux version is optimized for Ubuntu 22.04, macOS support remains experimental. The synth’s source code is openly available for exploration and customization. The LV2 variant shares the core features with the VST3 version, differing mainly in graphical interface details. TrapezoidSynth is a tool aimed at musicians and sound designers seeking a distinctive monophonic synth with flexible modulation options and a characterful oscillator design.
