While it is primarily developed to complement the Astralis synthesizer series, the .scl scale files it produces are compatible with any software that supports this format. Users can create scales containing up to 48 notes, accommodating a wide range of musical experimentation. Scales can be crafted using precise cent values through intuitive knob controls or text input fields that also accept ratio values, making scale design both flexible and accessible.

Integrated within the plugin is a basic synthesizer that allows immediate playback of scales as they are developed. This synth supports flexible scale layouts, enabling users to arrange notes sequentially or in octave cycles where the scale resets on the C key. Although this octave alignment is not embedded in the scale files themselves, it enhances the workflow during composition. The inclusion of an arpeggiator with various modes and a virtual keyboard featuring sticky notes enables hands-free scale design. Users can select note sequences to play continuously, facilitating focused scale adjustments without manual triggering.

Scala Creator comes preloaded with 300 microtonal patches, which serve as a foundational library for use across other compatible synthesizers. The patch management system is straightforward, using a main folder with subfolders that appear as banks within the instrument interface. Navigation is handled through dual popup menus allowing easy selection of banks and individual patches. The tool also offers import and compare functions to streamline the editing process. Designed to be more approachable than the complex Scala application, Scala Creator provides an intuitive environment especially suited for musicians new to microtonal tuning, enabling quick creation and export of custom scales.
