MidiMaster functions as a virtual master keyboard that integrates seamlessly within your host environment. Positioned between the MIDI input and multi-timbral VST instruments or various VST instruments assigned to different MIDI channels, it allows you to split or layer your keyboard into two distinct zones. Each zone can be customized with specific MIDI channels, program change messages, transposition up to three octaves up or down, and independent volume levels. This flexibility enables focused control over multiple instruments or sounds simultaneously.

Beyond splitting, MidiMaster offers the option to disable the split and apply all settings across the entire keyboard range, effectively turning the right section into a main control area. The software supports assigning host MIDI controllers such as knobs, sliders, and switches to continuous controller messages, which can be manipulated from an external master keyboard if connected. Users can save and recall up to 128 presets, facilitating smooth transitions between configurations during live performances or studio sessions.

MidiMaster enhances user experience by allowing program change listings to display either just program numbers or include program names for easier identification. By default, it loads General MIDI Level 2 instrument names, but users can import custom program name files tailored to their specific VST instruments for each keyboard zone independently. This feature ensures quick access to preferred patches and streamlines workflow when working with diverse instrument libraries.
