It features four distinct instruments that continuously produce melodies and rhythms, all shaped by customizable settings for scale, rhythm, and sound. The core sound generation combines classic subtractive synthesis with sampling techniques, enhanced by effects such as filtering, chorus, and reverb. Users influence the musical output by adjusting the scale, which controls the frequency distribution of notes, and rhythm, defined by the density of notes per bar. Additionally, the instrument randomly selects samples from a set of four for each note, adding variation to the sonic texture. Parameters for the synthesizer and filter can be limited to specific ranges, giving precise control over the evolving soundscape.

Magic Carpet also offers a unique loop mode that allows users to pre-compose sequences of six bars.
