The aXMonitor is designed to decode Ambisonic audio signals for playback through both headphones and stereo loudspeakers. It converts first-order Ambisonics into stereo formats while providing binaural 3D audio using HRTF technology, enabling immersive spatial sound experiences. This makes it possible to enjoy complex sound environments using traditional audio setups or headphones, broadening the accessibility of Ambisonic content.
Users can choose from three different listening formats with the aXMonitor. The binaural mode employs HRTFs from Google’s Resonance Audio, supporting personalized headphone rendering through custom .SOFA files. The UHJ Super Stereo mode offers an enhanced Ambisonics-to-stereo decoding with occasional spatial effects beyond the speakers. Additionally, the cardioid stereo decoding mode simulates two directional microphones to deliver natural stereo playback through left and right speakers.
The aXMonitor supports four-channel SN3D/ACN Ambisonic input and outputs two-channel stereo or binaural audio. It is available in three versions based on spatial resolution, ranging from first to seventh order Ambisonics, catering to different requirements for sound field accuracy. Compatible with multiple sampling rates up to 192 kHz, this plugin ensures high-quality spatial audio reproduction within digital audio workstations.
