A2M is an innovative Audio Unit plugin that transforms audio input into real-time MIDI notes, enabling musicians to control virtual instruments using their voice or acoustic and electric instruments such as guitar and saxophone. This plugin functions both as an audio effect and a MIDI effect, analyzing incoming sound while simultaneously generating MIDI events. Available as an AU v3 plugin and a standalone application, A2M allows seamless integration with a variety of music production setups.

The standalone version of A2M offers compatibility with all MIDI-capable applications, including GarageBand and Logic Pro, by sending MIDI data through virtual MIDI ports. While the plugin works well within AU hosts like Audiobus, AUM, and apeMatrix, it has some limitations, such as imperfect operation in Logic Pro and incompatibility with GarageBand as an AU plugin. Users can adjust settings like audio buffer size, pitch recognition algorithms, and gate threshold to optimize performance for their system and environment.

A2M supports macOS 11 Big Sur or later and iOS 14 or later, providing two pitch detection methods and customizable parameters to balance latency and accuracy. Although it currently lacks polyphonic detection and pitch bending, A2M excels at converting monophonic audio signals into MIDI data with minimal latency, making it a powerful tool for creative MIDI control using natural instruments and vocals.
