XLFO is a Max for Live device inspired by the LFO found in Ableton Live 9, enhancing its core features with additional performance and shaping options. This device maintains all the original functionalities while introducing new modes like oneshot, reset, and takeover to give users greater control over modulation timing and behavior. Oneshot mode allows the LFO to operate for specific portions of a measure, triggered manually or at preset intervals, while the reset function syncs the LFO phase precisely, whether in sync or frequency mode.
Takeover mode in XLFO offers a unique way to override the LFO output with a manual control value, ideal for creating smooth transitions or breaks within a track. The LFO continues running behind the scenes, ensuring seamless re-engagement when the takeover is disabled. Users can also set a cross-fade duration, enabling gradual blending between the manual control and the LFO output, which can produce dynamic effects such as rising modulation values over several measures.
Beyond performance controls, XLFO provides extensive shaping tools to customize the LFO waveform. Each waveform features a morph function that alters its shape, such as transforming a sine wave into a triangle or square wave. Additional controls include weighting options for exponential or logarithmic scaling, independent smoothing for ascending and descending signals, and output quantization aligned with musical timing. Mapping XLFO's output to other parameters is streamlined with an easy-to-use mapping interface and adjustable range settings, ensuring precise modulation tailored to any project.
