WoodSynth is a powerful synthesizer featuring four independent layers, each functioning as a complete synthesizer on its own. Every layer includes three voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) plus a sample-based sound source, which can be loaded from files or recorded live. Users can assign up to 16 voices per layer, enabling rich and complex soundscapes. Layers can operate in parallel, be assigned to specific keyboard regions, or run sequentially, allowing different sounds to be played on consecutive notes regardless of keyboard zones.
Each layer is equipped with dedicated filters, envelopes, modulation options, and effects to shape your sound precisely. Features include ADSR envelopes for each voice, pitch shifting envelopes per VCO, modulators, delay units with independent panning, and basic reverb. Multiple LFOs and a 16-step sequencer per layer provide extensive modulation possibilities. Key tracking can be applied to several parameters such as envelope attack and release, filter cutoff, and VCO modulation, enhancing expressiveness. The polyphonic pitch-bending touch bar displays incoming notes and supports advanced control over pitch bending.
WoodSynth operates as a stand-alone app or as a plugin compatible with popular formats including AUv3, VST, AAX, and AU on iOS and macOS platforms. It supports MPE, allowing expressive control through velocity, channel pressure, aftertouch, and various MIDI controllers. The synthesizer offers traditional waveforms with multiple modulation types like FM, AM, and pulse width modulation. Additional features include stereo effects, high-pass filter saturation, crush control, and integration with Ableton Link for tempo synchronization. Preset management via iCloud Drive enables seamless access across devices, while surround and 3D panning on macOS add spatial depth controlled by performance parameters.
