Studio Piper is a comprehensive virtual bagpipes system designed to deliver an authentic piping experience. Developed in collaboration with award-winning piper Fred Morrison and the Centre for Music Technology at The University of Glasgow, this instrument offers a rich and realistic bagpipe sound. The production process was closely supervised by Fred Morrison alongside Bill Evans, a former engineer for Tom Oberheim, ensuring the highest quality and authenticity in every note.

The virtual instrument features samples recorded by Fred Morrison on his own exceptional bagpipes, including Highland Pipes, Border Pipes, Scottish Small Pipes, and Uilleann Pipes. It covers a chromatic scale spanning five octaves, allowing for extensive musical expression. Studio Piper runs on the powerful Engine sample player by Best Service and includes built-in reverb, delay, and a range of other audio effects to shape your sound. The long drone samples provide natural phasing and variation while maintaining perfect tuning, creating the distinctive tonal character of real bagpipes.

Users can adjust the timbre to suit their musical needs, choosing between a piercing, rousing sound or a sweeter, mellifluous tone. The instrument is compatible with all MIDI input devices, making it easy to integrate into any setup. Studio Piper is also designed for future expansion, with upgradeable sample sets and new instruments planned to enhance the experience over time.
