Stringer offers a rich collection of samples from classic string machines including the ARP Omni II, Logan String Melody II, and Welson Symphony. These instruments are captured in two independent engines that can be layered and mixed to create complex textures. Each key was meticulously sampled with high-quality Apogee converters at 24-bit/44.1kHz resolution, ensuring exceptional sound fidelity. The samples were carefully restored and looped with lengths up to four seconds, preserving the original instruments' character and rhythmic integrity.
The original string machines sampled for Stringer are rare and highly regarded for their distinctive tones. The Logan String Melody II, produced in Italy in 1978, is known for its warm, midrange-rich sound. The ARP Omni II, a successor to the iconic Solina, delivers the quintessential string sound that defined much of the music from the seventies and eighties. The Welson Symphony, an uncommon Italian model, adds further depth to the collection. This blend of rare instruments provides a unique sonic palette that captures the essence of vintage string ensemble sounds.
Recent updates have expanded Stringer's capabilities with native 64-bit and Mac compatibility, a built-in patch browser, and an enlarged user interface. Integrated effects such as modulation, reverb, and a switchable ensemble effect allow for creative sound design. Version 3.1 introduced native M1 and VST3 support on Mac, a variety of new envelope types, and additional ensemble effects inspired by the classic Solina circuit. These enhancements enable users to craft authentic string ensemble sounds as well as fresh, original textures by combining sample-based and synthesized elements within the hybrid engine.
