Selector is a powerful VST instrument designed to control hardware MIDI synthesizers and other compatible devices through Bank and Program change messages as well as Continuous Controller (CC) data. It simplifies the process of switching patches and banks on your hardware synth, allowing seamless integration and automation of parameters such as Cutoff frequency and Resonance. This plugin enhances your workflow by providing direct control over your external gear right from your DAW.
Selector supports instrument definition files, a format originally developed by Cakewalk, which describe the banks, patches, and MIDI-controllable parameters of a synthesizer. These definition files enable the plugin to communicate efficiently with a wide range of hardware, making it compatible with virtually any DAW that supports MIDI data from plugins. Users can find pre-made instrument definition files online or create their own to tailor the plugin to their specific synthesizers.
Additional features include MIDI Thru mode, which passes incoming MIDI data through the plugin to your hardware, and a Trigger CC on Program Change option that resends current CC values when patches are switched. This allows for maintaining specific parameter settings like envelope states or drum tuning across different patches, improving consistency during performances or production. Selector also supports note names, which is especially useful when working with drum patches, making it a comprehensive tool for hardware MIDI control.
