SB-3 is a stereo detunable virtual analogue synthesizer inspired by classic subtractive synthesis from the 1960s and 1970s, yet it introduces a unique approach while preserving a vintage character. Its architecture includes three oscillators, with oscillators two and three sharing pitch but differing in waveform and fine tuning, and all oscillators doubling in stereo detune mode to create a rich and full sound. The interface reflects a retro sci-fi aesthetic, combining a rugged, vintage look with an intuitive, old-school style GUI that invites hands-on control.
Designed for both monophonic and polyphonic use, SB-3 offers up to 16 voices but is optimized for monophonic basses and leads, keeping CPU usage low. It includes multiple sound-shaping features such as two multi-mode filters with various configurations, two LFOs with multiple waveforms and modulation destinations, and dual envelopes that can also modulate LFO amounts for intricate sound design. Additional functionality like ring modulation, portamento, pitch bend, and hold modes enhance expressive possibilities. The synth’s stereo detune and ultra-analogue or phat sound options add depth and warmth without relying on external effects.
SB-3 also integrates a suite of built-in effects including distortion, tape delay with sync rates, and chorus to further thicken and color the sound. Its output stage features a limiter and a distinctive spider-eyes style level meter along with a dual LCD display for clear feedback. MIDI learn capabilities on all controls facilitate seamless hardware integration, and the synth includes 99 presets that showcase its sonic range. With its full automation and zero latency performance, SB-3 delivers a powerful vintage synthesizer experience suitable for a wide range of musical styles.
