Random Chopper is a dynamic modulation effect designed to process the gain of an input signal with a customizable modulation curve. Unlike typical modulation plugins, it offers the unique ability to randomize parameters within that curve, opening up a broad spectrum of creative possibilities. Depending on how you configure it, Random Chopper can function not only as a straightforward chopper but also as a tremolo, rhythmizer, distorter, glitch effect, and more.
Users can select modulation speeds ranging from 0.1 to 100 Hz, enabling the creation of effects that vary from smooth rhythmic pulses to edgy glitch and ring modulator sounds. The modulation curve is highly adaptable, with parameters such as attack, release, relation, attack-shape, release-shape, and stairs allowing for detailed shaping. Randomization can be applied individually to speed, shape, and depth, while a master randomization scale controls the overall intensity of these variations.
Additional features include the ability to trigger modulations at musical positions for precise syncing, and three distinct methods for generating random numbers—signal, time, and sequence—each offering different textural outcomes. Multi settings allow the combination of multiple modulation curves into one complex output, producing rich polyrhythmic or glitch-infused sounds. A collection of random presets provides a practical starting point for users to explore and tailor their own unique modulation settings.
