Quad is a powerful synthesizer plugin available for macOS and Windows, offering a vast sonic palette through its extensive modulation capabilities. Originally designed as a Rack Extension for Reason, it now comes as a VST, AU, and AAX instrument with a user-friendly interface that scales to 100%, 150%, or 200%. Quad features 16 voices and supports various tuning options, making it adaptable to different musical styles and preferences. Its sound design foundation lies in two oscillators equipped with phase distortion and waveshaping tools, each controlled by dual XY pads and an intricate modulation matrix that unlocks deep sound sculpting.
The synth’s dual oscillators offer a wide range of waveforms, including sine, square, saw, triangle, and noise variants, plus numerous additive and spectral waves. Each oscillator includes features like sub-oscillators, detuning spread, and multiple modulation types such as frequency modulation and ring modulation. Complementing the oscillators are two analog-modeled filters with flexible routing options and a variety of filter types, enabling precise tonal shaping. Quad also integrates an arpeggiator with customizable step sequencing and speed, alongside two high-quality effects processors that include chorus, flanger, phaser, reverb, and delay, enhancing the overall sonic complexity.
The modulation matrix provides eight slots with 58 modulation sources and 165 destinations, giving users extensive control over the synth’s parameters. Additional features include versatile envelopes and LFOs with tempo sync, a flexible play mode section offering polyphonic, monophonic, legato, and unison modes, as well as MIDI program and bank change support. Quad comes equipped with over 750 presets, a comprehensive bank manager, and back panel options for detailed MIDI configuration and tuning adjustments. This combination of rich features and intuitive controls makes Quad an inspiring instrument for creative sound exploration.
