PSP Wobbler is a modulation effect plug-in created in collaboration with renowned engineer and producer Alan Parsons. It recreates the distinctive sound of the Frequency Translator, a unique, handmade device crafted by Keith Adkins and famously used on Pink Floyd's "Time" from The Dark Side of the Moon. This plug-in captures the essence of that rare modulation effect, delivering a sound that is rich, dynamic, and instantly recognizable.
This plug-in employs frequency shifting to generate non-harmonic phase differences, resulting in a distinctive wobble that blends characteristics of phasing, flanging, and rotating speaker effects. PSP Wobbler expands on the original hardware by introducing adjustable parameters such as Drive, Ageing, Drift, and Spread, offering users more control over saturation and modulation texture. The inclusion of tempo synchronization and EQ filters allows precise shaping of the effect's frequency range, making it suitable for various musical contexts.
With a frequency shift range of up to ±25 Hz, PSP Wobbler can be manually controlled or synced to a DAW’s tempo, adapting fluidly to tempo changes or maintaining a fixed shift throughout a track. The wet/dry mix enables smooth blending of the effect with the original signal, while feedback, drift, and stereo spread controls add depth and movement. This plug-in delivers a compelling modulation experience that honors the legacy of the original Frequency Translator while providing modern enhancements for creative sound design.
