Pixels is a granular synthesizer that organizes sound grains using audio features, offering a unique approach to sound design known as concatenative synthesis. This technique maps two sound characteristics to horizontal and vertical axes, creating an interactive grain-space. This method allows musicians and producers to explore and manipulate samples in a highly expressive manner, unlocking new possibilities for performance and automation.
By grouping grains according to their audible properties, Pixels enables a more intuitive navigation through granular textures, providing a meaningful way to shape sound that differs from traditional granular synthesis. The interface is designed with simplicity in mind, inspired by hardware controls, featuring highly responsive parameters that can be easily automated. This ensures both immediate hands-on control and deep modulation potential.
The synthesizer includes a set of built-in modulators such as envelopes and LFOs with expressive shaping capabilities and various trigger modes. Randomization and subtle parameter morphing are central to its design, allowing for a wide range of sonic textures from delicate shifts to dramatic transformations. Additional features like Time Quantization and Pitch Quantization enable precise rhythmic and harmonic control, supporting complex micro-tonal scales and traditional tuning systems from a single interface.
