Permut8 is an effect plug-in inspired by early digital signal processing hardware, offering a unique blend of sounds ranging from classic delays and flangers to beat-repeaters and bit-crushing effects. Its design captures the character and unpredictability of vintage digital devices, creating a palette that extends into experimental and unconventional sonic territories.
At the heart of Permut8 lies a 12-bit digital delay with a variable sample rate that can be adjusted up to 352 kHz. This delay is governed by a programmable processor with a variety of operators, enabling the creation of a broad spectrum of effects beyond traditional boundaries. The signal path includes virtual analog components for saturation, limiting, and filtering, and the output can be fed back into the input to generate echoes, comb-filter effects, and complex textures.
Designed to emulate the quirks and character of physical digital hardware, Permut8 produces distinctive aliasing effects that differ from typical software plug-ins, with precise tuning available via a dedicated clock frequency control. While it embraces noise, distortion, and unpredictability, it also applies careful anti-aliasing and oversampling to preserve fidelity when desired. The interface encourages experimentation, inviting users to explore its complex features through hands-on use and accessible built-in help, making it a compelling tool for creative sound design.
