Pan drums, also known as hand pans, are a modern musical instrument first created in 2000 by the Swiss company PANart. Their unique, melancholic tones have captivated musicians and listeners alike, offering a distinctive sound unlike any traditional percussion instrument. Due to the intricate craftsmanship required to build and tune each pan drum, these instruments remain rare and highly prized within the music community.

Soniccouture captured the essence of hand pans back in 2007 with their initial Pan Drum sampled instrument, featuring two models of the Hang drum. As the craft of hand pan making has evolved, new instruments have emerged within the genre. In response, Soniccouture has updated their library to include these new drums, along with an improved Kontakt Player interface, broadening the creative possibilities for producers and composers.

The updated library offers over 7 GB of core samples, encompassing multiple hand pan models with a variety of articulations such as centre strikes, slaps, and mallet hits. Rich layers of velocity and round robin samples provide dynamic realism, while additional features like hand noise control and a generative arpeggiator expand sound design options. Integrated templates for popular hardware controllers and demo MIDI files make this collection accessible and inspiring for a wide range of musical projects.
