MidiVideoPlayer (MVP) is a Windows-based video player designed for live show environments where video and image playback is controlled via MIDI. It allows seamless management of multiple video files and images displayed on projectors, all triggered directly from your digital audio workstation (DAW) or any MIDI interface, either locally or over a network connection. This setup eliminates the need to embed video tracks within your DAW or rely on the same computer for playback, providing flexibility especially useful during live performances where smooth transitions between video clips and backdrop visuals are essential.
The software supports playback of videos in mp4 format and images in jpg format at full screen with audio, controlled through assignable MIDI keys that handle loading, play, pause, stop, looping, and volume adjustments. Special controller keys manage functions like showing or hiding the player, skipping forward or backward, and toggling blackout images or looping background videos. Its MIDI control extends over LAN or Wi-Fi using the accompanying VST3 plugin, which acts as a MIDI sender without playing videos itself, enabling the video playback to be offloaded from the main music production computer. This setup helps reduce CPU load and allows efficient integration with various DAWs and MIDI hardware.
MidiVideoPlayer is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions for Windows, compatible with popular DAWs such as Cubase, Cakewalk by Bandlab, Reaper, and others. It provides session logging for show management and supports up to 128 folder presets accessible via MIDI controllers. The player can be operated independently without the VST plugin, using any MIDI interface, or in combination with the plugin over local or networked connections. A fully functional demo version is available for testing, allowing users to explore its features with a splash screen shown on every media playback.
