Loopy Llama is a loop creation plugin designed to replicate the experience of classic hardware loopers such as the Jam Man or Line6 DL-4. It offers live performance functionality by generating a click track that can be used alongside a drummer, making it suitable for onstage use. Originally crafted to integrate seamlessly with Plogue Bidule, it also functions effectively as a standalone VST plugin. The maximum loop length is set to 60 seconds, allowing for concise and manageable loop segments during performances or recordings.
The plugin includes multiple recording modes to accommodate different playing styles and preferences. In the distinctive 'endpoints' mode, users start and stop recording manually to define loop boundaries. Alternatively, users can set the tempo in advance by typing it in, tapping it on-screen, or using a MIDI foot controller, which frees them from needing precise timing when starting to record. Once the tempo is locked, the click track guides the loop playback, and the number of measures to loop can be adjusted either on-screen or via program changes. This ensures tight synchronization and flexibility during live or studio sessions.
Loopy Llama offers practical features for creative loop manipulation, including the ability to undo recent loop passes, reverse loops instantly, and apply decay for evolving soundscapes reminiscent of Robert Fripp’s style. It supports hands-free operation through MIDI foot controllers and can sync multiple instances for building multi-part loops. With MIDI click track generation and VST time information transmission, this plugin enhances workflow for musicians seeking dynamic, real-time loop control.
