HoRNet HTS9 is a guitar overdrive plugin inspired by a renowned Japanese pedal from the early 1980s. This classic effect is widely recognized in blues and rock recordings for its ability to gently distort the guitar signal while enhancing tube amplifier tones. The plugin replicates the original pedal's signature sound, offering a smooth and musical overdrive that adds richness without overpowering the natural character of the instrument.
The overdrive effect is shaped through two main stages: a frequency-dependent diode clipper that distorts frequencies above 720Hz, preserving clean lows and adding body to the highs, and a tone-shaping filter that transitions from a low shelf to a high shelf to tailor the brightness. To control unwanted fizz, the signal passes through a subtle low pass filter, maintaining warmth and clarity. This emulation maintains fidelity to the original while incorporating a gain compensation algorithm to keep output levels consistent as drive increases.
Additional features include analog-style processing throughout the signal path, which can be disabled for a cleaner tone, and automatic oversampling that ensures high audio quality across sample rates. The plugin supports multiple formats such as Audio Units, VST, VST3, and AAX, and is compatible with both Mac OS and Windows systems, including 64-bit environments. Adjustable controls for effect level, tone, and dry/wet mix allow for precise customization of the overdrive effect.
