HoRNet ElliptiQ is a specialized elliptic equalizer designed to control stereo width in the low-frequency range. Rooted in techniques from the vinyl cutting era, this plugin processes the stereo signal by separating it into mid and side components. It applies a low shelf filter specifically to the side channel, allowing precise reduction of stereo wideness in bass and lower mid frequencies without affecting the central mono content. This approach helps maintain clarity and focus in the mix while managing stereo image effectively.
The plugin covers a frequency range from 20 Hz up to 2000 Hz, extending well into the mid frequencies, and offers three selectable filter slopes—12, 24, and 48 dB per octave—to tailor the curve from gentle to steep cuts. A notable feature is the automatic stereo width control, which continuously monitors the difference between mid and side channels and reduces excessive side information to prevent phase issues and enhance the track's impact. This dynamic adjustment ensures a balanced stereo field, particularly useful for bass elements that can otherwise become too wide.
HoRNet ElliptiQ also includes a correlation meter divided into seven critical frequency bands, providing visual feedback to identify potential phase problems across the spectrum. Compatible with both Mac OS X and Windows, it supports 64-bit operation and works within Audio Units, VST2.4, VST3, and AAX formats. This makes it an effective tool for producers and engineers seeking refined control over low-frequency stereo imaging and phase coherence in their mixes.
