10k+ plugins and counting. It's free.

HISE is a cross-platform, open-source audio application designed for creating virtual instruments with a focus on sampling. It supports building custom instrument patches and designing user interfaces, allowing users to compile their creations as VST or AU plugins, or even as standalone iOS apps. Available for both Mac OS X and Windows, HISE offers flexibility for musicians and developers working across different platforms.
The core of HISE is its advanced sampler engine, which features fast disk streaming and supports importing various sample formats including SFZ and Mach5. It offers dynamic sample mapping with multi-mic support, looping with crossfades, and customizable voice behaviors. This sampling power is complemented by a sophisticated modulation system with nested modulators like LFOs and envelopes, as well as a suite of audio effects including convolution reverb, filters, chorus, and delay, enabling rich sound design possibilities.
HISE also incorporates a real-time JavaScript interpreter for MIDI processing and interface creation, complete with debugging tools and autocomplete features. For deeper customization, it includes an embedded C/C++ compiler that facilitates quick prototyping and the building of DSP routines. The application supports exporting plugins via a streamlined build system. Distributed under GPL v3 with options for commercial licensing, HISE offers a powerful environment for crafting unique virtual instruments while providing full access to source code.
