Heliox is an experimental monophonic synthesizer designed to produce a wide range of sounds, from traditional synth tones like pads, leads, and basses to unusual textures and noises. Its straightforward interface focuses on functionality without unnecessary complexity, making it accessible for sound designers seeking unique sonic possibilities. The synth features a bank of 30 oscillators, each with adjustable frequency settings that allow for single tones, harmonic series, or non-harmonic arrangements.
Each oscillator can generate pure sine waves or be shaped through a customizable parameter, offering creative control over the waveform. An attenuation factor can be adjusted between oscillators to refine the overall sound. The synthesizer is equipped with 30 LFOs, each linked to an individual oscillator to modulate amplitude. These LFOs provide frequency adjustments similar to the oscillators and offer distinct modulation shapes that range from simple sinusoidal waves to more complex forms defined by center and sharpness controls.
The LFOs also allow for phase shifts between each other and can operate in periodic or randomly intermittent modes with density control, adding dynamic variation to the sound. An ADSR envelope shapes the output, providing traditional amplitude control. Heliox’s design emphasizes exploration of both familiar and unconventional soundscapes with a minimalistic approach, making it a valuable tool for experimental music production.
