Glass Works is a sampled instrument collection powered by Kontakt Player, featuring three unique sound sources crafted from glass. These instruments deliver a rich palette of tones, each with a distinct character rooted in historical and experimental designs. Combining innovative acoustic principles and artistic craftsmanship, Glass Works offers an immersive sonic experience centered on glass-based sound production.
Le Cristal presents a fascinating sound sculpture created in 1952 by Bernard and François Baschet. It consists of chromatically tuned glass rods that are played by rubbing with wet fingers, transferring vibrations through a metal block that sets the pitch. The sound is further amplified by a large steel plate and fiberglass cones, resulting in an ethereal and resonant tone that captures the essence of this inventive instrument.
The Glass Armonica recreates the historic friction idiophone invented by Benjamin Franklin, which produces musical tones by rubbing glass bowls graduated in size. Additionally, the Cloud Chamber Bowls emulate the instrument designed by Harry Partch in the 1950s, made from glass carboys originally used in scientific cloud chambers. These captivating instruments contribute a unique blend of tonal textures, perfect for adding atmospheric and otherworldly elements to any musical composition.
