GGrain processes audio by dividing the incoming signal into small segments called grains, which are short sections of sound carefully shaped to prevent clicks. These grains can then be manipulated individually and reassembled to create unique textures and effects. Users can control the number and length of these grains, allowing for detailed sound design and creative manipulation of the original audio material.
The plugin offers extensive control over each grain’s level and pitch, with parameters that enable random variation to add dynamic and unpredictable elements to the sound. By adjusting the Size, Pitch, and Gain settings along with their respective variation parameters, users can introduce subtle or dramatic changes in grain size, pitch, and volume. This flexibility supports a wide range of sonic possibilities, from subtle enhancements to bold, experimental soundscapes.
GGrain also features a Mix control to blend the original signal with the processed grains, achieving a balance between natural and altered sounds. A quality mode is available for improved audio fidelity, reducing artifacts and aliasing when pitch shifting grains, though it requires more CPU resources. This makes GGrain suitable both for quick creative experiments and detailed, high-quality sound design.
