FDNCymbal is a cymbal sound synthesizer designed to produce realistic metallic percussion tones. Unlike other cymbal plugins, it successfully captures the sound of striking a metal plate, delivering an authentic cymbal experience. The synthesis engine employs a stick oscillator that combines impulses and sine waves, enhanced by a feedback delay network to create plausible stick sounds. An allpass filter section adds a metallic texture, while a tremolo effect simulates the natural wobble of a cymbal.
The plugin is available for multiple platforms, with builds currently experimental on macOS and specifically compatible with Ubuntu 22.04 on Linux. While preset files from earlier versions are not compatible with the latest update, build instructions for other distributions are provided to assist users. For developers and enthusiasts interested in customization or contributing, the source code is openly available on GitHub.
In addition to the plugin, a JavaScript version of FDNCymbal exists, designed to run in modern browsers that support Web Worker and Web Audio technologies. Although it is not identical to the plugin version, it maintains a similar structure and approach to sound generation. This makes FDNCymbal accessible for quick experimentation and use without installation, catering to a broad range of creative needs.
