FB-7999 is a software instrument designed for both Microsoft Windows and Apple macOS platforms, emulating the iconic KORG DW-6000 and DW-8000 synthesizers from the 1980s. Built in native C++ code, it delivers high performance with minimal CPU usage, ensuring smooth operation across supported systems. The plugin supports a wide range of formats including VST2, VST3, CLAP, AU, and AAX, making it compatible with most modern digital audio workstations.
This instrument features two digital oscillators, each offering 16 waveforms, along with polyphonic and unison modes to create rich and complex sounds. It includes a built-in pseudo-stereo delay effect that enhances spatial depth in sound design. The plugin supports SysEx data communication for importing and exporting patches, including DW-8000 tape dump files, allowing users to access authentic vintage tones. Extended polyphony of up to 64 voices provides flexibility for dense arrangements.
Additional features include dynamic micro-tuning support via MTS-ESP by ODDSound and a resizable user interface for improved workflow. All parameters can be assigned to MIDI continuous controllers through MIDI Learn, enabling hands-on control and seamless integration with external hardware. The development process benefited from contributions of samples and beta testing by experts, ensuring a faithful recreation of the original synthesizers’ character and functionality.
