Desert is a collection of four distinct plugins that faithfully recreate a rare recording and mixing desk from the early 1960s, along with other exclusive equipment from the same manufacturer. Sourced from a historic recording studio in Lagos, Nigeria, once owned by a renowned British record label, this suite captures the essence of vintage British audio technology. The heart of the project is a meticulously sampled vintage console module, made possible by the generous contribution of producer and engineer Sodi Marciszewer, who owns the original hardware.
This plugin suite offers an authentic sound experience through four different emulations: a channel strip, an equalizer, a dual-mono compressor, and a preamp module. The preamplifiers, featuring germanium circuitry, deliver rich harmonic distortion with adjustable input and output amp combinations and a drive control, providing distinctive saturation textures. The equalizers boast rare British-made passive inductance designs with full filter sections, producing a clear and engaging tonal character. Meanwhile, the compressor is based on a refurbished opto compressor/limiter originally used for vinyl mastering in the 1960s, designed to manage dynamics with precision.
Each plugin in the Desert suite embodies the unique sonic qualities that defined groundbreaking 1960s recordings, offering a punchy, character-filled sound that enhances any mix. The compressor comes in three emulations that preserve the original unit’s spirit while adding enhancements for greater flexibility. This suite brings together the best elements of vintage British technology in a single, comprehensive package, delivering a rich palette of tonal colors and dynamic control for modern music production.
