The Dark Memory is a detailed simulation of the Electro-Harmonix Memory Man EH7810, a renowned analog echo and chorus pedal from the late 1970s. It captures the essence of the original device's characteristic sound, known for its warm and dark tonal qualities created by an under-clocked 1024-stage bucket brigade device (BBD) chip. This faithful emulation brings the vintage delay and chorus effects into a digital environment without losing the unique character of the classic hardware.
Enhancing the original concept, The Dark Memory offers additional features such as a classic stereo mode with left and right outputs set 180 degrees out of phase, creating a rich and immersive stereo experience. Users can also access a delay extension option that replaces the standard BBD chip with a longer 4096-stage chip, extending the delay time up to 4 seconds. This allows for more expansive soundscapes and creative delay effects beyond the original pedal’s capabilities.
The plugin includes a variety of controls for shaping the sound, including feedback, blend, modulation, stereo spread, and ducking, alongside pre and post-effect gain adjustments. It features tempo synchronization and a resizable interface for ease of use. These options make The Dark Memory suitable for crafting vintage-inspired delay and chorus effects with modern flexibility, appealing to musicians and producers seeking authentic analog-style delays with expanded functionality.
