The HG-Q plugin is a precision-crafted emulation of an upcoming hardware EQ developed over seven years in collaboration with Black Box Analog Design. Building on the success of the HG-2, this innovative EQ merges the warmth of analog tubes with modern flexibility and tonal depth, delivering a fresh approach to equalization. It features six fully independent bands dedicated to boosts and cuts, allowing users to shape their sound with a combination of rich saturation and clean, transparent filtering.
Each boost band incorporates tube saturation that enriches the signal with creamy harmonic content while preserving transients and mix clarity. Conversely, the cut bands use a pristine solid-state circuit to maintain precision without distortion. This unique dual design provides a dynamic balance between warmth and clarity, empowering producers to sculpt frequencies by removing unwanted elements and enhancing key tonal characteristics. Additional functionality like adjustable Q values, series and parallel modes, and a special "2X" mode expands the EQ range up to 16dB, intensifying saturation and revealing subtle harmonic nuances.
The HG-Q stands out with its musical phase interactions and visually engaging spectrum analyzer, which displays real-time frequency shaping and the interplay between bands. This interaction creates a complex and captivating tonal experience that goes beyond traditional EQs. Its flexible processing modes include stereo, M/S, dual mono, and mono, complemented by a scalable user interface and advanced features such as auto-listen and multilayer controls. The result is a powerful tool that enables detailed, creative sound sculpting with a vibrant, full-bodied character.
