BeatCutter is an innovative multi-channel application designed for slicing and recombining audio based on rhythm. At its core lies a matrix of sample cells with flexible recording, playback, and control buses, allowing users to manipulate large audio files or live instruments. This app is ideal for creating complex rhythmic patterns and chaotic sound constructions that push the boundaries of conventional music production.
With almost limitless options for transforming source audio, BeatCutter enables the creation of unique sound textures and atmospheres ranging from cyberpunk and industrial ambience to alien jungle soundscapes. It accepts any type of input, including tracks, external instruments, or audio from other apps. The final result depends on the original material and user settings, producing anything from futuristic IDM to abstract soundscapes suitable for relaxation and meditation. The app features a template editor for quick experimentation where users can adjust parameter groups or use a randomizer to discover fresh ideas.
One of BeatCutter’s standout features is its experimental feedback mode, which generates evolving sound structures that change continuously, unlike traditional analog feedback loops. This mode creates intricate sound abstractions independent of external audio, offering vast creative potential. Supporting up to four external input and output channels and playback of eight files simultaneously, BeatCutter functions as a multi-channel audio unit compatible with major DAWs. It works on iOS and macOS devices, including iPhone, iPad, and Macs with M1 chips, supporting Audio Unit, Inter-App Audio, Audiobus, and Ableton Link integration. The interface is optimized for MIDI controllers, featuring 8 faders and 8 knobs, and includes comprehensive parameter documentation.
