basic 65 is a monophonic synthesizer inspired by the iconic sound of the 1980s Commodore 64 and its legendary SID chip. It captures the essence of the classic waveforms and signal path while expanding on them with additional features to enhance creativity. This synth offers a distinctive retro character, perfect for crafting nostalgic 8-bit sounds reminiscent of vintage home computers and early video games.
The synth includes a double arpeggiator that enables complex patterns, bringing dynamic motion to your compositions. Modulation possibilities are rich, featuring a modulation envelope and two tempo-synced LFOs that can affect pitch, filter cutoff, and pulse width. Key sound-shaping elements such as pulse width modulation, ring modulation, oscillator detune and sync, as well as pitch and bit drift, add depth and texture. These features allow you to create a broad palette of lo-fi, chiptune, and retro-inspired sounds with character and warmth.
basic 65 offers a range of options including different bit depths (16, 8, or 6 bit) and three oscillators, each with its own ADSR envelope. The oscillators can interact via sync and ring modulation, while flexible routing to a state variable filter provides low, high, and band-pass options. Additional features include pitch wobble for subtle instability, retriggerable envelopes, monophonic or polyphonic modes, and comprehensive MIDI support. The synth comes with 128 presets crafted by experienced sound designers, delivering immediate inspiration for your music production.
