The aXDeesser is a specialized de-essing plugin designed for AmbiX-format Ambisonic signals, compatible with SN3D/ACN encoding. It targets specific frequency bands to compress sibilance, making it ideal for processing Ambisonic microphone recordings such as those from TetraMic, Sennheiser AMBEO VR, OctoMic, or Zylia microphones. While primarily used to reduce harsh sibilant sounds in vocal recordings, the plugin can also be applied creatively to sub-mixes containing various sound sources, enhancing overall clarity and presence.
This plugin offers directional control by allowing users to select the azimuth and elevation of a virtual microphone that detects when to activate the de-essing effect. Compression is triggered only by sound sources coming from the chosen direction, although once engaged, the effect applies across the entire sound field. Users can adjust parameters such as frequency, bandwidth, threshold, ratio, attack, and release to tailor the compression effect precisely. Additionally, a monitoring function isolates the sibilance band to help assess the impact of the processing.
The aXDeesser supports three versions with different spatial resolutions, handling first, third, or seventh-order Ambisonic signals, accommodating a wide range of project requirements and DAW capabilities. It delivers output in AmbiX format and is compatible with major plugin formats including AAX for Pro Tools and VST3 for Windows and macOS. Due to the high channel count required for seventh-order processing, users are encouraged to test compatibility with their DAW before purchasing. This ensures optimal performance tailored to the complexity of their Ambisonic recordings.
