AutoGrid MIDI Edition is a Max for Live MIDI device designed to generate random synth patterns across eight separate MIDI channels, playing one note at a time to prevent overlap. This approach ensures that patterns remain clear and distinct, making it ideal for constructing complex arpeggios, basslines, and layered sequences. By managing note playback with precise control over timing and probability, it streamlines the process of creating evolving and engaging MIDI arrangements.

The device offers extensive control over playback probability for each channel and note, with adjustable durations ranging from rapid 1/32 notes to extended bars, including dotted and triplet values. Users can set minimum and maximum gate lengths per note and apply random silences for dynamic rhythmic variation. Transposition options allow notes to shift up or down by two octaves, with probability settings for individual scale degrees and the ability to lock octaves to the root note. Scales can be loaded directly, enabling instant mapping of note degrees to musical modes such as major scales or arpeggios.

AutoGrid MIDI Edition features a looping random engine with adjustable loop lengths between 1/8th and 16 bars, and sections of the device can be randomized independently to inspire fresh ideas. The device is fully automatable, facilitating creative control within your projects. It is provided as part of an Ableton Live template with pre-configured track structures for immediate use—simply add your instruments, set the key, and start playing. Please note that Max for Live is required to run this device, which is included with Ableton Live Suite or available as an add-on.
