apVerb is an advanced audio plugin designed to produce algorithmic reverbs with remarkable smoothness and adaptability. It generates reverb through thousands of semi-randomly spaced delay lines inspired by an innovative noise form known as 'velvet noise'. This unique approach results in resonance-free reverb tails that offer superior smoothness and expansive stereo width compared to traditional reverb methods.
The plugin allows extensive manipulation of the delay lines using built-in filters and effects, enabling the creation of a wide range of reverb types and experimental sound textures. apVerb features 23 curve-based multi-segment envelopes that provide detailed control over parameters throughout the reverb's duration. This capability supports not only conventional reverbs but also reverse reverbs, dynamic density changes, frequency bandwidth modulation, and delay-like effects.
With synchronization options for envelope and pre-delay times to the host tempo, apVerb makes rhythmic reverb effects achievable. Additional tools include an early reflections generator based on virtual room simulations and three effects—chorus, phase distortion, and saturation—that can be applied selectively to specific time or frequency regions of the reverb. The wet signal is further refined by input dynamics through a ducking algorithm or by resetting the reverb tail during attacks or transients, enhancing its responsiveness in mixes.
