The A/DA Flanger is a classic effect known for its rich, colorful analog tone that set the standard for flanging sounds since its introduction in the late 1970s. Renowned for its ability to deliver both subtle modulation and intense, dramatic effects, this flanger has become a go-to choice for musicians and producers seeking authentic analog character. Its reputation is backed by an exacting plugin emulation created by Brainworx, developed with input from A/DA founder Dave Tarnowski, ensuring faithful recreation of the original hardware’s unique sonic signature.
At its core, the A/DA Flanger excels in producing classic bucket-brigade analog flanging effects that add depth and movement to guitars, synths, vocals, and drum tracks. Featuring controls such as Threshold for gating, Manual for sweep tonal center, Range for frequency spectrum adjustments, Speed, and Enhance for resonance, it allows precise shaping of the modulation. Unique features like the ability to switch between even and odd harmonic flanging and an extended delay ratio of 40:1 open up a wide sonic palette, from gentle ripples to wild, jet-like whooshes.
The plugin extends the original hardware’s capabilities with modern enhancements including a Wet/Dry Mix control for blending the effect on source tracks or inserts, DAW tempo sync for seamless integration into any project, and dual stereo modes for expansive modulation. Users can also toggle between the warmer grain of the 1979 version and the cleaner sound of the 2009 reissue. These additions make the A/DA Flanger plugin a powerful tool for creative sound design while preserving the character that made the original legendary.
