The RS56 is a stereo equalizer that captures the iconic sound of 1950s and 60s classic recordings. Originally developed in the early 1950s for mastering and vinyl cutting, it quickly gained acclaim for its smooth, musical tone and powerful shaping capabilities. Its rich history includes extensive use by Abbey Road Studios, where it became a preferred tool for engineers seeking more refined control than that offered by the basic tone controls of the time.
This equalizer is known for its silky, transparent character, making it ideal for processing loops, drums, synths, and full mix buses. The design features three bands with multiple frequency and filter options, allowing for detailed tonal sculpting. Users can choose between stereo, dual mono, or mid-side modes to tailor the sound precisely to the needs of modern productions while preserving the warmth and clarity of passive equalization.
Developed in collaboration with Abbey Road Studios, the RS56 plugin benefits from precise modeling of the rare original hardware used on legendary recordings, including those of the Beatles. It offers an intuitive EQ graph for visual feedback and includes 37 presets to demonstrate its classic tonal qualities. Enhanced with modern features, it brings the revered vintage sound into contemporary workflows, blending heritage with usability.
